Two out of date community centres are being redeveloped to deliver new aspirational housing for older people at a site on Weale Road, Chingford. The new housing has been designed by PRP Architects and was shortlisted for three awards in 2013 including HAPPI project Award, Housing Design Awards, Best Retirement Scheme, Housebuilders Awards and Health & Care Unbuilt, New London Architecture.
RSA Geotechnics was commissioned by Higgins construction to deliver ground investigation works on behalf of the final Client, Circle 33 Housing Trust. The aim of the site investigation was to investigate the potential for desiccation beneath the proposed three-storey block and provide foundation advice accordingly. Two cable percussion boreholes were extended to a depth of 15 m with one located close to mature trees and a further hole away from vegetation to act as a control for moisture content analysis.
The final development will provide communal spaces for residents and non-residents alike including a restaurant, activity room, lounge and areas to rent for parties, coffee mornings and other community events.
